Anna Geis was guest researcher at Newcastle University

Anna Geis conducted a research stay at Newcastle University (UK) from 13 October to 5 November 2025. She was hosted by Professor Stephen Elstub at the School of Geography, Politics and Sociology.  Newcastle University assembles excellent expertise on theoretical and empirical democratic innovations research. Anna Geis benefitted greatly from the personal exchanges with the colleagues in Newcastle on deliberative democracy and on British citizen assemblies in practice. While central government initiated processes in the field of foreign and security policy are hard to find in the UK, local climate policy-related citizens assemblies have been gaining more and more prominence. During her stay, she also presented the DFG project’s findings on the German case in a guest lecture („Germany’s First National Security Strategy: The Role and Impact of Citizen Dialogue Formats“) at the Politics Research Seminar of the School of Geography, Politics and Sociology (22 October 2025).
